Grief & Loss Support Group Program: Jan 23rd, 2021 Onwards

Online Support Group for Grief and Loss: Jan 23rd onwards, 3-5 pm, every weekend, till Feb 14th, 2021.(click)

Join a small group of people, unknown to you, who are in a similar life stage or situation, to share, learn and grow together. The group meets at regular intervals and is facilitated by a counsellor.

What does a Support Group involve?

  • The purpose of a support group is to explore your situation with others who have similar experiences. This leads to personal growth and development. The counsellor helps the group members help each other. Sharing in the group helps you understand that you are not alone.
  • All human beings learn and grow in the context of a group. A support group provides the opportunity to see yourself as an individual and as a group member. Groups are an effective avenue to growth and change.
  • Group counsellors help the group develop trust and communicate effectively.
  • You get the opportunity to share your concerns and group members help you feel understood and supported. You also gain from the feedback and perspectives group members provide from their experiences. Similarly, you contribute to the growth and development of other members.

We offer the following Support Groups (only in Bangalore):

Support group for Single Parents (women only)
When women find themselves as single parents either through circumstance or choice they do experience a range of intense emotions. Single mothers can begin to feel overwhelmed in trying to juggle myriad personal and professional responsibilities, dealing with children and family and coming to terms with the changes in their lives.
Summoning up the daily strength to cope with these complex demands can sometimes seem like a daunting and lonely task.

Objectives:

The Support group for single mothers hopes to be a space where women feel comfortable enough to:

  • Share their experiences
  • Experience a sense of solidarity
  • Be understood and accepted
  • Learn from mutual experiences
  • Build supportive networks
  • Work towards their personal emotional growth and well being

Support group for Parents
Parenting today: there are several changes happening on individual and societal levels as a result of which parents are at times struggling to cope with their own needs and the needs of their children. The family structure is becoming more fluid and more egalitarian, and thus quite different from the environment most of our generation has grown up in. Maintaining healthy contact with other adults and children is a struggle both parents and children of today experience. At times, parents are not aware of how their actions are creating issues within the family; at other times, they are aware but lack the know-how to change the way they act/ their children act.

This group is aimed at providing non-threatening, non-judgemental support as well as practical go-to methods and tools to help parents negotiate these areas. In the group, parents will be encouraged to learn from each other as well as to apply creatively the modules of discipline skills that we coach them with. They will find a space to share concerns and find support and validation for their struggles.

Support group for Anger
We all feel angry at times, it’s a natural response to threats and attacks, injustice and disappointment. Sometimes the anger comes out as uncontrolled rage or an outburst which has negative and significant consequences on our health, relationships, emotional and mental well-being. Anger is a powerful emotion and releasing the pressure that builds inside is essential to deal with problems and move on. But if anger isn’t understood and dealt with in a healthy way, it can overwhelm and be potentially destructive to us and people around us.

The support group for anger proposes to be a safe, non-threatening and holding space for members to:

  • Explore and acknowledge ones’ anger in the group
  • Self- acceptance and acceptance from the group about being “angry”
  • To become aware of the impact of “anger” on an individual’s life
  • To use anger as a tool to the inner world of feelings
  • To understand anger and become aware of the sources
  • To learn to differentiate between anger and expression of anger
  • To learn to express anger in healthy and functional ways

Support group for Grief & Loss

We often experience many losses in life – the loss of a loved one, the loss of a cherished dream, the loss of a relationship. Grief is a natural and important part of the healing process. During intense grief, we may feel that nobody truly understands the pain. However, having an empathetic counsellor and a supportive group where others share similar experiences of loss can be a game changer in the healing process. It is possible to find new meaning to the loss and experience hope.

This support group is a safe space to be yourself and find healing for your broken heart by:

  • Talking about the loss and how it feels
  • Experiencing the pain fully and spend time with it
  • Feel listened to, understood and supported by other group members who share similar losses
  • Learn new perspectives about the loss
  • Feel hopeful with a renewed sense of meaning as healing begins
