Taking a chance on counselling
I had heard a lot about counselling in the organization where I used to work. There used to be all these campaigns around the service and how people have benefited from it. In order to experience it first hand, I decided to take one of the issues that I had around my work to a counsellor.
I was a little nervous about how I was going to open up about something so personal to an absolute stranger. I am not sure where that one hour went but when I stepped out of the room, I felt a lightness and a sense of calm in my mind. I am not able to pin point any particular aspect of the session that made me feel that way but the overall experience was mood lightening. I had a few actions items given to me by my counsellor …something called the CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) to apply at my work. I had a couple more sessions around what I had captured in my CBT.
At the end of these three sessions, I felt that I was able to get so much more clarity in my mind and the amazing thing was that the counsellor did not give me one word of advice nor did she tell me how to manage my issue…it all came from me but she helped me arrive at the clarity.
I continue to go to a counsellor at a frequency that is comfortable and suits my schedule. I have recommended it to my friends and family.
